Queen Moremi the Musical – a review

Bolanle Austen- Peters production has become a household name for theater in Nigeria. In the past BAP has produced quite a number of sold out stage plays such as Fela and the Kalakuta Queens, Saro the musical 1&2, Wakaa the musical and just recently the widely talked about Queen Moremi Ajasoro the musical.

Queen Moremi the musical played host to lots of people and special guests such as the Ooni of Ife, Minister of Information (Lai Mohammed), Governor of Lagos (Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode) and a host of others. Infact, tickets got sold out very quickly.

The stage play retold the story of Queen Moremi of Ile ife infused with BAP original music and comic relief. An old Ile Ife story told with modern twists without losing the story nor its essence. It celebrated our rich history, culture and rich heritage while telling our stories to those familiar and unfamiliar with them. It is not one to be forgotten in a short while for those who watched it.

The show was excellent from the cast to the props, music and perfect stage effects per scene. Everyone has a swell time and we were not disappointed. Renowned actors and actresses Omotola Jalade- Keinde, Ayoola Ayoola, Deyemi Okanlawo, Femi Branch, Gbenga Afolayan, Bimbo Manuel and as well as BAP production regular Sisiano and a few other people.  Though I missed seeing the vibrant Dolapo Phillips on stage.

It is great that BAP is leading in telling the stories of our ancestors in ways this generation can relate with as well.

I hope Queen Moremi Ajasoro gets to show again and more people get to watch it, another way to learn about history and have fun.
